The S-Ranks That I Raised Wiki

Going Back (Korean: 회귀, RR: hwegwi) is the fifth episode of The S-Ranks That I Raised webtoon.

When Han Yoohyun dies in his brother's arms, Han Yoojin takes his revenge on the Rauchitas before finding a way to set things right.

Summary[]

Han Yoojin briefly recalls how he and his brother Yoohyun used to be incredibly close when they were younger. The flashback is interrupted by current events: Yoohyun, impaled by Rauchitas' thorns and fatally wounded, nonetheless struggles to sit upright and ask a shocked Yoojin if he's alright. Even as the Rauchitas roars with rage in the background and Yoohyun himself clings, struggling, to life, he instructs Yoojin on how to escape safely and gives him a Gate Stone. Yoojin can barely understand, trying to reconcile Yoohyun's sacrifice and kindness with the cold, distant rejection he'd shown him in the past. Becoming frantic as his brother's condition worsens, Yoojin says Yoohyun's more in need of care than Yoojin himself, only for Yoohyun to admit that he's well beyond saving, finally succumbing to his injuries and falling limply into his brother's arms.

Han Yoojin grieving (Webtoon Episode 5)

Han Yoojin crying for his brother

Yoojin, barely believing it, calls out Yoohyun's name one more time, but Last Compensation activates and transfers his doubled abilities to Yoojin. As Rauchitas strikes at them, Yoojin effortlessly leaps out of the way using Azure Willow Leaves, carefully carrying Yoohyun's body. Retreating to a safe distance, Yoojin sets down Yoohyun and uses the blood from his injuries to create a spear, cursing Yoohyun even as he attacks the Rauchitas viciously, slicing one of its heads clean off in an instant. As he singlehandedly decimates the Rauchitas, Yoohyun's memories come to him one by one, showing how Yoohyun distanced himself from Yoojin in order to keep his enemies from targeting him, despite how much it tore at him to leave him behind. Unable to fully distance himself, Yoohyun had his people watch out for Yoojin, protecting him whenever possible and going after those who hurt him when not. He tried to help him as much as he could, but was devastated when he couldn't protect Yoojin, apologizing over and over and praying he would be fine.

Wish Stone (Webtoon Episode 5)

The Wish Stone

The memories finish transferring, and Yoojin, standing atop the Rauchitas' corpse with grief-stricken tears pouring down his cheeks, wonders out loud why Yoohyun never said anything, letting Yoojin continue to make trouble for him. Having lost his will to live alongside his brother, Yoojin resigns himself to death once Last Compensation's protection fades. Just then, however, he receives the title Dragon Slayer, and as a reward alongside it, the Wish Stone. His wish for his brother's resurrection is denied; he thinks of all the power he could gain from it, but in the end, only asks to be sent 5 years back in time to when his brother was alive, and promises to live a quiet life without causing any more trouble. As the Wish Stone activates, he swears to himself that even if he regrets his choice, he won't let anything like this happen ever again.

Han Yoojin telling Han Yoohyun he loves him (Webtoon Episode 5)

The Han brothers' reunion

Yoojin comes back to himself 5 years in the past, Unawakened and in the Haeyeon Guild building. Checking the time, he realizes it's the point in time where he went to an Awakening broker in an attempt to try and become more like his brother. Following his memory of the event, he realizes what's about to happen next, and looks up to see Yoohyun bursting in, already admonishing him for coming to Haeyeon. Teary-eyed and overwhelmed with relief, Yoojin lunges at him and hugs him tight, apologizing and acknowledging the difficulties he's faced before telling him he loves him. He thinks to himself that he'll forget about Awakening and just live quietly, only to be surprised by system notifications that he's Awakened, received the titles Dragon Slayer and Perfect Caregiver, and used the growth-doubling buff skill My Brat Is The Best on Yoohyun.[1]

Novel & webtoon differences[]

  • Yoohyun's memories transfer over the course of Yoojin's battle with the Rauchitas, rather than all at once before he begins his fight.[2]
  • When Yoohyun dies, Yoojin carries his body away from the Rauchitas. In the novel, they are already far enough away from the Rauchitas that Yoojin simply lays him on the ground and heads away to fight the Rauchitas.[2]
  • Yoojin prepares to fight the Rauchitas by summoning a spear made of Yoohyun's blood, drawn from his open wounds, instead of cutting open his own arm and drawing blood from there.[3]
  • Immediately after the regression, Yoohyun admonishes Yoojin for coming to Haeyeon instead of for contacting an Awakening broker.[4]
  • Yoojin hugs Yoohyun immediately without saying anything, then apologizes afterwards, and releases him before telling him he loves him and Awakening. In the novel, he first apologizes, then asks to hug Yoohyun; he tells him he loves him while still hugging him.[4]

Trivia[]

Golden Gate Stone

Original, incorrect Gate Stone

  • When the episode was first posted, the Gate Stone was drawn as a long, faceted gray stone with glowing gold engravings, instead of its canonically described appearance as a blue stone. The episode was amended at a later date to correct this.
